1812 Veteran recognition

Pictures from the commemoration of the veterans from the War of 1812. Over the course of the month of September the Fort Erie Heritage Group held 4 separate occasions where 1812 Veterans were acknowledged and commemorated. The W.M., W. Bro. Matthew Stickland with Officers and members of Palmer Lodge and other Lodges of the District attended the ceremony at St. Paul’s Anglican Church cemetery to acknowledge and remember Bro. Lewis Palmer, after whom Palmer Lodge # 372 is named. The photo seen held in some of these pictures, is of Bro. Lewis Palmer, and the only known picture to exist of a veteran from Fort Erie area.

Palmer Lodge will present a copy of the picture and a full setting of Palmer Lodge table ware to both the Heritage Group and the Legion Branch # 71, Fort Erie.

Installation of Master and Officers

June 3 was an auspicious evening – with the installation of the Worshipful Master and investiture of the line officers for the upcoming masonic year ( June to June in Palmer). The installation was conducted by W. Bro. Clark Stickland, having the distinction to install his son as Master of the Lodge.

This is especially significant because W. Bro. Clark Stickland has just completed his year as Master of the Lodge. Often a father will have the honour of installing his son as Master of the Lodge, it is rare that they will have followed each other in succession.

Step Up / Junior Officer

April 29, 2014 Palmer Lodge will host an emergent meeting for next year’s officer line to ‘step up’ to the next chairs to show they can complete the work required to open and close the Lodge. It is hoped that a couple of brethren who have been preparing, will also prove their proficiency on this evening.

Fort Degree

The ‘Palmer Lodge Fort Degree’ is returning after having been on hiatus for some seven years. Over the past number of years brethren have inquired if and when the ‘Fort Degree’ will be brought back.

This is the year. With the year 2014 being a remembrance of the end of War of 1812, a celebration of 200 years of peace and friendship between Canada and the United States, it is fitting that we, Masons of Fort Erie also recognize such an auspicious occasion.
